Cloud escape

Posted by peter | Posted in Nature Photos, Winter | Posted on 31-03-2010

It’s been a while once again since I last posted an image, so here is something from last summer. This year will be less active for me, as I’m working on my thesis and handling work + family. Anyway, I’ll try to be active when I can!

This was shot by the sea near Porvoo as the sun was setting on a lovely summer evening. I used my Lee 0.9 ND and 0.9 GND for this, to get some slight cloud motion in the sky. The final shot is from a single raw, no HDR. Take care and thaks for looking!

Winter scenes

Posted by peter | Posted in black and white, Landscape, Nature Photos, Winter | Posted on 26-02-2010

Many years ago, I experimented with infrared film on medium format cameras. As some of you might know, it was a difficult task. Long exposures, deep red filters, loading and a loading the film in total darkness. The result was a hit and a miss, in my case anyway, whatever came out ok I printed in my darkroom to dreamy like images. All this was dormant for years; I forgot how beautiful infrared photography could be. That was until I had Panasonic TZ3 point and shoot camera converted to IR. Amazing how easy it is in the digital age.

Openlands Light

Posted by peter | Posted in Landscape, Winter | Posted on 16-02-2010

A few weeks ago a good friend and shooting buddy, Mark Kinsman, shared an idea he had with me. It went something like this; we get up really early and shoot sunrise at Openlands Lakeshore Preserve on the west side of Lake Michigan, then drive all the way around the southern end of the lake to the same latitude on the east side and shoot scenic sunset. Today was the day – we did it! An 18 hour day with the pictures to prove it.

Toy Shed

Posted by peter | Posted in Landscape, Nature Photos, Winter | Posted on 14-02-2010

Using the tilt shift lens at full tilt and focusing only on the old boat shed with a wide open aperture, gives the illusion of a toy/model village. No photoshp trickery here, it was all done in the field. Viewing the larger image shows the effect better.

Swoooosh!

My John visited my parents today. Afterwards he needed a little break and had a drive through the countryside. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, this photo was taken.
